Catz Poses

I know others may disagree, but I believe every catz in every catz breed is capable of one standard pose. You just have to know the tricks.

The most common trick is to just start snapping pics of the cat until it poses. Fair enough. It works -but not for all breeds. The B&W shorthair and alley catz will pose, but have an angry look on their face. The siamese will actually sit down, or stretch but never pose.

There is a solution to this problem. Its a real trick that was discovered by Magic Kennels and Cattery a long time ago. To do it, keep the program open but put the kitty in question away. Next with one finger on the space bar, select the catz and then quickly move the hand curser all the way to the other side of the screen so the cat will follow it when it comes out. Once it reaches your hand, it many do one of many things... one of those things is a perfect pose. When you see the pose, hit the space bar and a pic will be taken. You may have to do this several times to get it right.

Here is a b&w shorthair personality catz. Notice the nice even eyelids? The feet can be further apart however. Here is an alley catz pose. This also looks really good. Its hard to keep them from looking angry. The less eyelid showing, the better.Interesting siamese. But um, yes... even they can and do pose.

The Perfect Pose

The catz pose is usually facing right. But that doesn't always have to be the case. The forelegs are together and perfectly aligned so that you can't see the far leg. The backlegs have a wide separation. The far backleg will be as far back as possible and the close backleg will be as far foreward as possible so there is a wide separation. That means that the two backlegs should not be 'touching' each other. The back should be straight, not twisted. The face should be full towards the camera. It's head should be held high. The expression should be happy and content. The tail should held high and curled over the back as much as the breed will allow.

Below are some examples of posing catz. Mouse over them for details. :)

This is a main coon mixie. All main coons pose with their eyes wide open. This b&w mixie is slightly turned... but his eyes look nice and even. Using trick two will achive this. This b&w mixie needs to have his back legs further apart. Its still a really good pose! He would probably win in a lot of shows -even at Silvertoo.A persian's backlegs almost never separate. Thats because they are so fluffy. This pose looks really good. Persians also rarely have even eyelids. They tilt like a dalmations would.

Calico are the most popular in shows. However, getting the eyelids to be even is really challenging!Tabbies also pose with their eyes wide open. Perfectly ok.This is a hexed Russian Blue. They're great posers.Posing in the other direction is ok for catz. It even helps the persian's backlegs seem further apart. This one, however, is slightly turned.

I'm not going to eleminate petz outright if the pose is not perfect! But another catz with a better pose does stand a stonger chance of winning. So try your very best to get the best pose from your petz. Sometimes it takes awhile. In that, I feel your pain.
